(Spanish CNN) — The Argentina national team are preparing to face Australia in the first match of the FIFA double date, during their tour of Asia. The world champions will play this Thursday at 9 a.m. in Buenos Aires (8 a.m. in Miami), at the Workers’ Stadium in Beijing. In a second shift, they will travel to Jakarta, Indonesia where they will play a game against the home team.

This first duel has a special seasoning since the last time the Argentines and Australians met was on December 3, 2022 for the round of 16 of the World Cup in Qatar. The victory that day was 2-1 for the South Americans, with goals from Lionel Messi and Julián Álvarez, in view of obtaining the third star of the World Cup.

This Wednesday, the “Scaloneta” had its last training session with the full team in the stadium where the match will be played. The squad received a visit from Ezequiel Lavezzi, a former national team player and good friend of Leo Messi. The striker played in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and finished his career in China with Hebei FC, where he spent between 2016 and 2019.

In a press conference, DT Lionel Scaloni said he still didn’t have a confirmed team, “but it’s almost the same one that ended up playing the World Cup”. And he added that he will see “how is Julián (Álvarez), who comes from a well-deserved celebration” after winning the Champions League with Manchester City.
